About Me

I see myself as a fellow traveller rather than someone who knows what is best for another person.

I see myself as a fellow traveller rather than someone who knows what is best for another person.

My name is Noah Bruce. I am a licensed psychologist.

Here's the professional bit: I earned my PsyD from a joint program offered by Stanford and Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in 2008. My training experiences included the UCSF Aids Health Project, Stanford's Behavioral Health Clinic, and Marin County Mental Health in California.

After graduation, I worked in the outpatient clinic at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Oakland, then I spent 5 years working in both residential and outpatient treatment centers for eating disorders and trauma, including part of that time as Director of the Day Treatment Program at Castlewood Eating Disorder Treatment Center in Monterey, CA.

I spent the last 4 years as director of the Behavioral Health Clinic at Salina Valley Memorial. Starting in 2022, I’ve split my time between private practice work, and parti-time work at Harmony Place Monterey, a day treatment program for people struggling with mood disorders, substance abuse, and eating disorders.

And the personal story: I decided to become a therapist after brief careers in management consulting and journalism. This work satisfies my fascination with the mysteries of the human mind, my need to be of service, and my love of connecting with other people. Though I have a lot of specialized training, I see myself as a "fellow traveler," rather than as someone who knows what is best for another person. Ultimately, being a therapist is part of my own spiritual path.

When I'm not doing therapy, or reading about the brain, or in a training, I train in Brazilian Ji-Jitsu, just bought a wetsuit to go in the ocean, and I watch a lot of HBO shows.
